MSK's Growing Out of Trouble Program is a community-based crime prevention initiative consisting of hands-on learning centered in agricultural education to address trauma and promote positive outcomes among Ward 7 youth, seniors, veterans and returning citizens to prepare the next generation for eco-green careers.
In addition to the Growing Out of Trouble Program, MSK's education initiatives focus on enhancing literacy rates and physical fitness among early childhood and primary school-aged learners, fostering holistic development and empowering the next generation for a brighter future.

Student volunteers tending to crops at the Applied Research Garden; nurturing growth, learning sustainability, and building community resilience one plant at a time.
The Applied Research Garden is more than a green space—it’s a catalyst for restoration and resilience. Through hands-on urban agriculture, green infrastructure, and intergenerational collaboration, MSK fosters environmental awareness, food security, and a deepened sense of belonging. These efforts have strengthened social ties, reduced crime, and brought healing and opportunity to residents of Richardson Dwellings and beyond.
